Vandals have damaged one of the members of Norwich’s troop of apes currently decorating the city.
The Ape’d Crusader outside our head office in Rouen Road was targeted overnight on Thursday, when vandals snapped off his glasses.
The spectacles were found nearby and the crime has been reported to the police.
Michael Rooney, from the Break charity, which is one of the organisers of the gorilla trail, said he was saddened at the news, but added: “Apart from the gorilla in Chapelfield Gardens, known as World Animals, which had words scrawled on it, we have been pleased that people have treated the gorillas very respectfully. They are obviously aware of how much pleasure they bring.”
Sarah and James Sutton, who were visiting Norwich from Kent, said: “It’s a real shame that it has been vandalised. Most people have embraced the trail as something the city should be proud of.”
The GoGoGorillas trail features 54 artistic apes and runs until September 7. For more details, visit wwww.gogogorillas.co.uk
