Police were called to Coltishall Road shortly after 11am yesterday to reports of a device found outside a property, located underneath the informant’s car.

A 100 metre cordon was put in place around the scene and an evacuation of six properties took place to ensure the public’s safety, pending an examination of the device by Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal officers.

Initial examination indicated the object was safe to remove and it has subsequently been transferred to a forensic laboratory for further examination.

It has not yet been established whether or not the device was capable of causing harm.

The cordon was lifted at around 8.30pm and residents returned to their homes. Police believe this is an isolated incident relating to a specific individual, with no ongoing risk to members of the community.

The 49-year-old arrested man from Norwich is currently in police custody where he will be questioned.

Anyone with information about this incident should contact Norwich CID on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
