A man was taken to hospital after a rush hour crash which closed one of the main roads leading into Norwich.

The crash on Newmarket Road, near the junction with Upton Road, happened on the carriageway heading into the city just after 5pm today.
It involved a van and a motorcycle.

Police, firefighters and ambulance crews went to the scene.

A spokesman for the East of England Ambulance Service said a man in his 20s had been taken by ambulance to the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital.

He said his condition was not thought to be life-threatening.

While emergency services attended, traffic was diverted via Unthank Road.

Norfolk police took to Twitter to urge drivers to avoid the area.

The road had re-opened by 7pm.
