The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning, urging people to be aware, with forecasts of up to 60mph hitting the region from tomorrow.

The wind and rain weather warning has been issued from midday tomorrow to 6am on Thursday.

The weather has already started causing some disruption with a fallen branch blocking Ringland Lane, in Costessey from about 2.30pm today. Police are currently at the scene, which has closed the road.

Phil Garner, forecaster for the University of East Anglia-based Weatherquest, said: “We have one band of rain today and another coming later tomorrow in the afternoon and evening where there will be quite strong winds of 50 to 60mph.”

“It is nothing out of the ordinary and we are getting used to heavy rain and strong winds, but it is not good news potentially on exposed areas such as the coast. Localised flooding is a real worry and possibly river flooding later.”

Today’s rain is set to have passed Norfolk by this afternoon, but temperatures are set to plummet below freezing tonight with warnings of icy conditions.

A spokesman for Norfolk County Council said the local authority’s fleet of gritters would be hitting the roads at 3pm and 9pm today. Drivers are being urged to take care driving on the roads tonight and tomorrow morning.

There are no Environment Agency severe flood warnings or flood warnings for Norfolk and Suffolk.

However, severe flood warnings, where there is a danger to life, remain in place along stretches of the River Thames west of London and on the Somerset Levels.
