Police are still working to recover vehicles from the A47 Acle Straight after a lorry crash this afternoon.

The four-vehicle collision happened at about 2pm around a mile from the Great Yarmouth end of the road.

A lorry driver was trapped after his vehicle left the road and ended up in a dyke, and recovery work was still going on at 7.45pm.

A police spokesman said he was unsure how long the recovery would take, but that work had been slowed by the dark and rainy conditions.

  • They should apply a 50mph speed limit along the entire length of the Acle Straight, as on much of the single-carriageway A140 in Suffolk - and enforce it. There will be fewer accidents, and the road will take more vehicles every hour.

  • The answer on this road...double white lines the whole way with a 50mph limit and heavy fines for people who break it. I have had a near miss a few years ago. All the trafic slowed down to a stop, as I slowed, I checked my mirror, the clown behind me was driving to fast and wasn't going to stop. I managed to pull into one of the lay by's, as he smashed into the rear of the car in front of me !! A close one (in more ways than one !!)

  • We don't know how this accident was caused, but we've just read about the trial and sentencing around the horrific accident that happened on the A47 a year ago - and our hearts go out to all those involved. But has that significant minority of appalling local drivers learned? No of course not. So come on everybody come along any day and watch the amazing 'Acle Straight Show' where you will see amazing feats of SPEEDING, TAILGATING, LIFE THREATENING OVERTAKING, USE OF PHONE WHILE DRIVING and the inevitable ROAD CLOSURES AND DELAYS not to forget the occasional FATALITY or TERRIBLE INJURIES. And as a special winter treat you'll be able to see all of these amazing feats in FOG, ICE and (possibly) SNOW. And it's all FREE - unless of course you are a tax payer! Apologies or condolences (in advance) to those who may be innocently involved - but the show must go on!
