Two men charged with committing a string of robbery offences in Great Yarmouth over the past few days are due in court today.

Brendan Burt, 31, of Coronation Terrace, Yarmouth, and Gary Brown, 43, of North Quay, Yarmouth, were arrested on Sunday (March 10), after several incidents between last Wednesday and the weekend.

Mr Burt has now been charged with four offences of robbery –

• A robbery at Yarmouth Pet Stores at Victoria Arcade on March 6 where the shop owner was allegedly threatened with a screwdriver.

• A robbery at Bet Fred at Regent Road around 9pm on March 8 where two men allegedly threatened a member of staff with knives.

• A robbery at Thompsons Family Choice in St Peters Road around 6.20pm on March 9 where a member of staff was allegedly threatened with a knife.

• A robbery at Ladbrokes in Gorleston High Street around 1pm on March 10 where a man, allegedly armed with a knife, entered the premises.

In all four incidents cash was stolen.

Mr Brown has been charged with three counts of robbery – Yarmouth Pet Stores on March 6, Bet Fred on March 8 and the Thompsons on March 9.

He has also been charged with criminal damage to his police cell.

Both men have been detained in custody at Great Yarmouth Police Investigation Centre ahead of their appearance at Great Yarmouth Magistrates Court this morning.
