Two Norfolk pubs are celebrating after being named the best in the region in three different categories.
The Murderers in Timberhill, Norwich has been named the best sports pub in East Anglia and the East Midlands for the fourth consecutive year, and has also been named the best in the region for its toilets.
And the Jolly Sailors at Brancaster Staithe has been named the best family pub in the region.
The Great British Pub Awards, hosted by The Publican’s Morning Advertiser, are known as the pub’s “Oscars”, and attract hundreds of entries from across the UK.
Phil Cutter, landlord at the Murderers, said: “For a fourth consecutive year we are regional winners of the best sports pub category, but we have also been nominated in the best loos’ section.
“There is a swanky black tie awards ceremony to be held at the Park Lane Hilton on September 11, where winners of each of the 17 categories will go forward to have one pub chosen as pub of the year.
“Obviously, we are delighted to be recognised yet again within the industry for being a great venue to show sport. But we hope that our customers understand that essentially we remain a traditional family-run free house, which welcomes everyone.
“Toilets are a very important part of the business. Women are especially very careful where they use facilities. I know that my wife will only use public toilets that are immaculate.
“We continue to invest in the quality of the toilets, and frequently re paint, and refresh the vanity units. We also have the TVs in both ladies’ and gents’ toilets, which are used to promote forthcoming events, play music, plus show live events. This adds to the unique experience of the Murderers.”
Heather Tidd, general manager at the Jolly Sailors, said they were delighted.
“We are absolutely thrilled to be awarded regional winner for the second year running.
“It’s a brilliant achievement and reflects again all the hard work by the dedicated team at the Jolly Sailors to retain this award. This is a fantastic reward for the whole team at the Jolly.”
