A 25-year-old man found guilty of dangerous driving following a crash at a Norfolk level crossing has been ordered to do 180 hours of unpaid work.
Robert Trotter, of Market Street, Tunstead, appeared at Norwich Crown Court today for sentencing after previously being found guilty. He denied dangerous driving.
Trotter was impaled through the legs by wooden fence posts following the collision at the Tunstead level crossing between his vehicle and the North Walsham to Norwich train which had about 60 passengers on board at the time. The incident happened in December 2009.
Judge Alasdair Darroch told Trotter his driving had been foolhardy in the extreme.
He ordered Trotter to do doing 180 hours of unpaid work as part of a 12 month community order and banned him from driving for 12 months.
He also ordered Trotter to pay £4,200 in costs which is expected to be paid by his insurance company.
