A trio of exhibitions have opened in the city to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Norwich 20 Group.
Featuring art work from members past and present and documenting the history of the Norwich 20 (N20G), together the exhibitions look back over the last seven decades of the group that was founded by Walter Thomas Watling, art master at CNS, supported by Aileen Law and 12 other local artists.
The show 20 now 70 – Norwich 20 Group Artists' 70th Anniversary Exhibition - is in the Atrium at The Forum until March 31.
It has been curated by Amanda Geitner from the Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts and visitors can meet N20G artists there every day from 10am to 6pm.
Nearby at the Undercroft, under the city's war memorial, is the show 20 Group Underground which has been curated by Frances Martin and also runs until March 31. It is open from midday until 3pm each day and features larger works, installations, video and sound pieces.
The Bridewell Museum is hosting an exhibition of the group's history - The Norwich 20 Group - 70 years 1944-2014 until May 24. It has been curated by Clotilde Wang and a series of talks about the N20G complement the exhibition.
Linda Chapman, N20G chairman said: 'Our 70th anniversary is a very important milestone for the group. We are looking forward to sharing our work with friends old and new at The Forum and The Undercroft. I also hope many people take the opportunity to explore the exhibition about our history at the Museum of Norwich at the Bridewell.'
In the introduction to the 20 now 70 exhibition catalogue she said: '2014 marks the 70th anniversary of the N20G, 70 years of fine art practice, regular exhibitions and commitment to debate about the arts - 70 years of demonstrating the significance of art in our lives in this part of East Anglia.'
N20G members over the years have included well known names such as Michael Andrews, Bernard Reynolds, Edward Barker, Leslie Davenport, Mary Newcomb, Jeffery Camp RA, and Cavendish Morton.
N20G now has more than 80 members from across Norfolk spanning the whole spectrum of contemporary art from sculpture to painting to digital media.
