Krista Thompson, known to her family and friends as Kris, was discovered hanged at her home in Parmentergate Court last week.

The 49-year-old, who was born in Zimbabwe, worked as a volunteer for Disability Rights Norfolk, but also had a love of animals, wildlife and campaigned for gay and animal rights.

Her sister Donna, a model, dancer, and actress, from Sprowston Road, Norwich, led tributes to her. She said: “We were very close. We’ve got an older sister and a younger brother, so we were forced together and always shared a bedroom.

“Kris believed, ‘If you can dream it, you can do it’. She was very kind, very friendly and always helping people. Krista will be sorely missed.”

After moving to Norwich in 2005, Ms Thompson, a former graphic artist and taxi driver in South Africa, cared for her late mother Joan at their home near Bishopgate. She then lived at Aylsham Road for a time before moving to her flat in Parmentergate Court last year.

Donna, whose stage name is Donna Africa, said recent times had proved difficult for her sister, who was diagnosed with skin cancer last year. She said: “She’s suffered from severe depression and severe anxiety. It’s been a real nightmare.” But Donna said her sister, who was passionate about music, was now “at peace” with her beloved mum and the angels.

A funeral takes place on July 21 at 2.30pm at the City Cemetery Burial Chapel on Earlham Road.
