  • The last time I travelled on a train it was clean and on time into London and Norwich on my return. That was back in 1993 so things might have changed since then.

  • When I worked for B R back in the sixties, I cannot ever remember trains being cancelled as many times as they are now. Signal failures were very few and far between, and of course we had diesel electric locos, that were not subject to "bird strikes" and there was a spare in case of a breakdown. Oh and before I forget, fares were cheaper than airline tickets. From where I am standing it looks like progress has taken one step forward and two steps backwards..

  • Stop Press..what article were you reading ? It clearly has nothing to do with train cleanliness. You have an axe to grind perhaps ? My recent experience of train journeys if you want to mention them is they have been very good and with clean trains ! Sadly it is the users who make them dirty, not the railway companies.

  • I wonder? With all the problems on this line lately - do the Swiss ever have similar problems, they have clean trains that run on time ! Wake up England !
