The train line between Norwich and Diss has now reopened, after overhead wire problems shut the section both ways for most of this morning.

Network Rail closed the line both ways between Diss and Norwich at 9am, and it reopened shortly before 1.30pm.

The closure meant that a replacement bus service was operating between the two stations and adding delays of 45 minutes to services from Norwich to London Liverpool Street.

The 1.30pm service to London Liverpool Street this afternoon was the first train to travel through the line between Norwich and Diss.

During the disruption, operator Great Anglia ran a reduced train service between Norwich and London Liverpool Street, running at an hourly frequency with extended journey times.

Customers to and from Norwich were advised to travel via Cambridge and First Capital Connect services to and from Kings Cross and arrangements were made for Greater Anglia rail tickets to be accepted for these journeys on First Capital Connect and East Midlands Trains.

  • When is this Mickey Mouse train service going to be sorted? It is actually holding back economic expansion and house prices, because getting to London to work has become a hit and miss affair. How is it that the continentals get it right and little britain can't,and we invented the railways!.Cheap, efficient, and reliable are not words that apply to this service.

  • As the EDP does not want to discuss it , google " Treasury Minister defends delay of 3p per litre rise " and watch Norwich MP C Smith on BBC Newsnight disappear down an enormous hole.

  • I like living and working in Norwich, travel by bike and don't need trains, so the Norwich - London line fits my purpose.
