Traffic latest: Royal Norfolk Show organisers happy with traffic flow following early meeting

After an early meeting about the traffic management at the Royal Norfolk Show, vehicles are moving as planned and organisers are satisfied that they are controlling the traffic flow well this morning.
Event organisers personally surveyed the situation on the roads around the showground, near Costessey, at 8am this morning.
Sarah de Chair, show manager, said: “Traffic is flowing well. We are utilising the traffic lights on the Longwater roundabout in order to cope with the both the show traffic and the early morning commuter traffic. We have seen the whole thing in operation and it is working as it should.
“There will inevitably be queues, but we have tweaked the management plan this morning to make it run as smoothly as possible, and everyone arriving will be marshalled.”
Chief executive John Purling said: “The system is absolutely necessary to allow traffic flow in both directions, and we have seen that the traffic is moving efficiently.”

The traffic was totally miss-managed as far as I am concerned. Why did they close down part of the Longwater roundabout so to access the Longwater Business Part and Queens Hills housing development cars had to turn left at that roundabout and negotiate the showground roundabout then doubling back on themselves along a single lane? How on earth did that help? It may have allowed farm vehicles and lorries to exit the we showground, but once that had done that they just became grid-locked in the congestion caused by a two lane, two roundabout system being turned into a single lane system that forced people who would have not needed to negotiate one of the roundabouts to negotiate both, and in single file!! This appalling planning resulted in it taking 1 hour to get from the Roundwell Medical Centre traffic lights to Longwater Lane Business Park. A distance of 500 meters!
