The bridge, which is part of the A12 and spans the River Yare, was raised at 9.30am to let through a flotilla of 16 boats.

But as it was brought back down it got stuck, leading to a build up of traffic on the A12, Acle New Road and North Quay.

It remained in mid-air for approximately half an hour as engineers worked to bring it down.

The bridge was returned to its normal position by around 10.45am and engineers will remain on site for the second scheduled lift later this morning.
