A south Norfolk town was red all over on Saturday when the town was painted crimson for charity.

Take it as Red day, held in Wymondham town centre on Saturday, was held to promote health and wellbeing while raising money for the British Heart Foundation.

Themed zones were created around the town where people could find out more about health issues, take part in activities or try a range of locally produced food. Community food stalls filled Abbey Hall while people had the chance to buy local crafts at Fairland Hall.

Organiser, Tony Vale, said: “There’s something for everyone. Some people like crafts and some people like food.”

Mr Vale said that the day tied in well with businesses gearing up for Valentine’s Day.

“We have tried to link businesses and the community.

“Thanks must go to sponsors Queenswood Puzzles, Waitrose, Wymondham Motorist Centre and some of the local churches, for gifts in kind and to Wymondham Lions Club for meeting the direct costs of staging the day.

“As a result of these contributions and a generous donation from Fosters Solicitors, the British Heart Foundation will receive just over £300.”

Mayor of Wymondham, Robert Savage, said that the event had helped bring people from different walks of life together.

“It has helped them improve their lifestyles. There has been a good community spirit.”

Wymondham Baptist Church welcomed zumba dancers who proved fitness could be fun, along with a number of health-related displays.

Ann Roberts, chairman of Wymondham Nature Group, which is part of Norfolk wildlife trust, said: “We are trying to get people to keep their hearts healthy. It’s good to get out in the countryside and it’s good for people’s mental wellbeing. It’s about connecting with nature.”
