A timeline of James May’s death at the James Paget University Hospital in Gorleston.
September 19 – James May, 76, of Great Yarmouth, is admitted to the JPH in the evening. September 20 – Mr May dies in the early hours. On an unknown date between September 20 and September 30, the hospital is made aware of an allegation of medical malpractice in connection with Mr May’s death. September 30 – The hospital refers these allegations to police, and an investigation is launched. October 2 – A Home Office post-mortem examination is conducted at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital. Mr May’s cause of death is recorded as heart failure, but further toxicology tests are awaited. These could determine whether a drugs overdose was administered. October 5 – Police arrest a “member of the hospital’s medical staff”, described only as a middle-aged man, on suspicion of murder. He is bailed until an unspecified date in November.
