Former town councillor Russell James has been indexing the local history archives that were passed to Thorpe St Andrew Town Council for safekeeping by Janet Smith, who chaired the Thorpe History Group for many years before it had to be dissolved.

He then put on an exhibition of some of the archive material at the bi-monthly community cafe held at the St Andrews Centre, behind the Good Shepherd church in Thunder Lane, which is held on the first and third Wednesday of the month between 1.30pm and 3.30pm.

Such was the success and interest shown in the exhibition, that Russell now intends to hold a further exhibition of some of the archive material at the next community cafe on Wednesday, March 7.

The community cafe is run by members of the Salvation Army church that meets at Dussindale School to raise funds for the Thorpe area Youth Cafe, that meets at the Fitzmaurice Pavilion on Wednesday evenings.
