History will be brought to life again later this year when a Military Revival show transports a Norfolk airfield back in time.
Last year’s event saw Old Buckenham Airfield transformed into a living museum, complete with tanks, vehicles and a display of vintage uniforms.
Now, in its second year, organisers hope October’s show will top last year’s success - with a vintage festival added to the line-up to entertain all the family.
Matt Wilkins, airfield manager, said: “This year there is something for everyone with the vintage festival. Not everyone in the family is going to want to sit and watch aircraft - now it really is a family day out.”
A 1940s hangar dance will run alongside a cinema, barber’s shop and a host of stalls from the decade, while mock battles and a vehicle demonstration - including a 1986 Saxon armoured personnel carrier - will entertain die-hard history fans.
A nuclear missile with the power to wipe out five square miles of its surroundings will also be on hand to wow the crowds.
The MGM 52 Lance - which dates back to the seventies - was a mobile field artillery tactical missile used by the United States Army.
Mr Wilkins added that the missile “was capable of being thrown about 180 miles”.
Uniforms and equipment dating back to the First and Second World Wars will be on display, as well as those currently used in service.
“We will show some of the modern equipment that is around - used by guys serving out in Afghanistan, for example. Men and women in uniform are fighting and we find that this gives us a new found appreciation,” the manager said.
He added that the show hoped to be able to give a deeper insight into war - particularly in the light of the First World War centenary.
“Right now people look at textbooks and see war memorials and don’t fully understand what went on.
“We want to try and readdress that,” Mr Wilkins said.
The Military Revival Show will take place from October 4 to 5. Tickets range from £10 to £65.
