An inspiring school girl from Taverham has been announced as a semi finalist in a national contest which aims to promote glamour and celebrate success.

Fourteen-year-old Darcy Rose Amiss has successfully made it to the next stage of the Miss Junior Teen Great Britain competition.

And if she is selected for the finals she will have to attend a special competition weekend at Blackpool, taking part in events such as a beauty queen challenge day, a pyjama diva party, and the grand finale itself.

The Norwich High School for Girls pupil said she is 'amazed and grateful' following her achievements.

'I hope to go further and achieve a place in the finals in October,' she said. 'This would give me a very positive platform to raise the profile of local and national charitable giving as well as the chance to make new friends across the country.

'People think that these contests are just about beauty parades but today these events offer far greater opportunities for young women to share experiences and learn from each other.'

Since entering the contest, Darcy said she felt encouraged to have a positive outlook and confidence in herself and has enjoyed the opportunity getting to meet other young people with similar interests.

Her impressive resume includes ballroom and Latin dancing, competing in Pro Am competitions, modelling, and acting, and she volunteers at her local Break charity by collecting and delivering items in support of its fundraising activities.

She is also a member of the Inspiring Females Committee and has recently written to Michelle Obama asking if she would come to Norwich to talk to the girls at her school.

Little Miss Junior Teen Great Britain was created to be a positive and confidence-building experience for young girls and teenagers. The contest covers England, Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland.

The winner of Little Miss Junior Teen Great Britain will spend the next year doing appearances, charity work, and modelling.
