A survey of American mothers has revealed that 91 per cent of mums would prefer to receive an iPad than they would flowers as a Mother’s Day gift.
Personally, I am concerned for the eight per cent that would prefer flowers: you can’t flog second-hand flowers on eBay – I know, I’ve tried.
Asking this question is a bit like asking someone if they’d prefer to receive a £5 book voucher or a £500 wad of notes.
In a perfect world, I’d have the iPad and the flowers. And a really big diamond. And an Aston Martin. And an all-expenses-paid trip to the Bahamas.
As it is, I got a mug. There’s a metaphor hiding there.
