High school and junior school pupils from near Sprowston came together yesterday to celebrate the Olympics.

They participated in a range of artistic and sporting activities at Sprowston Community High School.

Pupils from Year 5 and 6 at Sprowston Junior, Woodland View, Hainford and Frettenham, and Sparhawk Infant schools all attended.

Along with the high school’s Year 7 pupils, they joined in a multi-sport event including athletics, cycling, rugby, tennis and cricket, and received certificates and medals for their efforts.

They were supported by student leaders at the school, and students in Years 8 to 10 worked on sculptures which will be displayed when the Olympic torch visits Norwich on July 4.

Assistant headteacher Margaret Quigley thanked the school’s sports department for having organised the day.

She said: “The day was held to celebrate the 2012 Olympics and the cultural Olympiad.

“It reflected the three values of the Olympic Spirit: friendship, peace and unity, and was brilliant day for those involved.

“The weather was great, and the pupils really enjoyed the activities.”
