That is exactly what one Norwich butcher is hoping will happen next week.

The chilli sausage made at Archers Butchers, in Plumstead Road, is in the running to be crowned the British Pig Executive (BPEX) Foodservice Sausage of the Year Champion 2012 next Friday.

The final of the competition, which is being held in the run up to British Sausage Week, which is between November 5 and 11, is being held at Butchers Hall in London on Friday, October 26.

Archers has picked up five awards for its bangers so far, with the chilli sausage making it into the final 15 of the overall competition.

The BPEX judges evaluated some 200 entries across the competition’s five categories; traditional pork sausage, speciality pork sausage, best pub pork sausage, best innovative pork sausage and iconic British banger.

Archers was awarded gold in the speciality pork sausage category for its chilli sausage, as well as gold awards for its traditional Norfolk pork sausage and pork and apple sausage.

It also claimed silver awards for its caramelised onion pork sausage and traditional pork sausage. BPEX Foodservice trade manager Tony Goodger, said: “The first stage of this year’s competition was very difficult to judge due to the high standard of entries. It is clear there has been much innovation in the sector, with many entries wowing the judges – not least the five entries from Archers Butchers.

“Our congratulations go to everyone at the company on their awards and we wish them luck in the final.”
