Special Routemaster bus service bus in memory of Norwich bus driver
Workers at a Norwich bus company put on a special service for a dear friend and colleague who died before Christmas.
Dozens of friends of Reggie Rumball, who spent 43 years driving buses in Norwich, this morning boarded a historic Routemaster service bearing his name to travel from Rouen Road to a memorial service at St Faith’s crematorium.
Mr Rumball, of Cherry Close, Lakenham, died on December 9 from bowel cancer, said friend Ray Cobley, but would be remembered as a man who brightened the lives of those he knew.
“He had a good sense of humour,” said Mr Cobley, a staff manager with First Buses, which organised the service.
“He always looked on the bright side of life, and was very laid-back. He saw the funny side of life.”
Mr Rumball had retired from First Buses, but colleagues from his time at the company had been keen to pay tribute, said Mr Cobley.
He added: “Bus men are a close bunch anyway, so we wanted to do this.”
