Sheringham’s big jubilee picnic cancelled because of rain

Sheringham’s town mayor said he felt “positive” about today’s (Sunday’s) jubilee celebrations - despite the cancellation of the big picnic event due to the weather.

PHOTO: ANTONY KELLYMore than 150 people braved the rain and enjoyed a small-scale picnic in the Sports Pavilion behind Splash Leisure and Fitness Centre.
Mayor Douglas Smith said: “With the people who turned up we had a very rousing sing of the national anthem and before that 500 people enjoyed a special Diamond Jubilee service at St Peter’s Church.
“Unfortunately we had to cancel the rest of the day’s event, including our live music, but we were joined by dignitaries from our twin towns Otterndorf, in Germany, and Muzillac, in France.”

The celebrations organised in Cromer were brilliant. The Town Council and all the volunteers really did the tow proud with visitors arriving from everywhere. Well done to Cromer.

poor showing even before the rain there was just not the interest ! a lack of understanding about events by the town council there .

I can't be the only one disappointed with the lack of a contingency plan? The live entertainment surely could have been hosted by a pub or community building elsewhere in town and the entertainment could have gone on. Out done by Cromer once again!
