Gorleston and Great Yarmouth’s inshore lifeboat Seahorse IV and a team from Gorleston Coastguard were scrambled to the scene at 11.45pm yesterday, and joined police in the search.

When the crews arrived police had already pulled one casualty from the water, who was then taken to hospital.

Rescue teams carried out a full search for a possible second person, which included using flares, and spent at least an hour on scene.

But nothing was found and all units were stood down.
