More than 2,200 school children were out in the sunshine at Eaton Park to take part in INEOS Norwich: Go Run For Fun.

The youngsters got to take part in a 2km run around the park as teachers and parents joined in for support.

Special guest 400m hurdler Meghan Beesley fresh from the Commonwealth Games joined the group to encourage every runner to get active.

She said: 'We just want to get more children running, jogging and walking - just being active and show that it is really easy to get out and do this.

'It is all about having fun all you need is a pair of trainers. Running can help with obesity issues and improve general health and well-being.

'It makes you feel better and will help with school and help us get healthy.'

The event has been taking part in the City for the past five years and for some of the children it was their third time taking part.

Miss Beesley added: 'Now the children who have come before are more confident and they are at the front wanting to go because they know that they can do it.'

Primary school pupils aged from five to 11 from West Earlham Infant School, Mulbarton Primary, Valley Primary, Henderson Green Primary, Colman Infant School, Colman Juniors, Free School Norwich, Cringleford Primary, Eaton Hall, Bignold Primary, Nelson Infants, Wensum Junior and Bluebell Primary all donned their pink T-shirts and racing numbers to take on the course.

UK Project Manager for Go Run For Fun Charlotte Allan said: 'Our aim is to make children associate running and activity as something that is fun.

'We have had a lot of kids in Norwich with 2,200 throughout the day which is the most we have had at a UK event.

'There has been lots of smiling faces, it was sweet to see the children who had finished motivating their other classmates, it is always nice to see that kind of team spirit come through.'

Go Run For Fun has events in nine different countries across the world including Norway, Switzerland and Germany.
