A Norwich supermarket is celebrating a key milestone in its food donation programme.
Sainsbury’s has achieved its 1,000th donation point for their customers countrywide. This means that 80pc of Sainsbury’s stores now have a collection point where customers can drop off donations of canned and packaged food for charity. The Pound Lane store in Thorpe St Andrew customers donate products throughout the year to support YMCA Norfolk. YMCA volunteers then collect these and redistribute to people in need in the local area.
Jason Symonds, store manager, said: “It is important to us that we work with our local community. We hope to see even more food donated to help people in the local community.”
The store is also redistributing its surplus food at the end of each day and is partnered with Encouraging, Nurturing Young People which cooks it for local children’s groups.
