Academy of St Thomas will be joined by celebrated cellist Alexander Baillie tonight to mark their 30th concert at Salle Church.

The Norfolk classical ensemble first performed at the village church near Reepham in 1981 and it has become a much anticipated concert in the mid-summer musical calendar attracting large audiences and picnics.

Previous soloist-directors have included oboist John Anderson and violinists Fionnuala Hunt, Hannah Perowne and Lorraine McAslan. Past conductors have included Paul Hoskins and Matthew Andrews.

Alexander Baillie will be directing a programme that includes Haydn's Cello Concerto in C major and Tchaikovsky's Rococo Variations. In addition, there will be the first performance of an Elegy by Kenneth Leighton arranged for cello and orchestra by the soloist.
