A recovering heroin addict who stole from a Norwich supermarket has been ordered to carry out unpaid work.
Nigel High, 42, of no fixed address, took goods worth £4.98 from Roys on Magdalen Street on Wednesday, but was stopped by a security guard.
He pleaded guilty to theft before Norwich magistrates yesterday, and admitted a breach of a suspended sentence order dating to April.
Alison McManus, mitigating, said High had been an addict for 25 years but was making progress in getting clean since his conviction in April. Magistrates fined High £50, deemed served by a night in custody, and added 10 hours of work to the 44 remaining on his order for the breach.
