Radio 1 breakfast host Nick Grimshaw calls out Radio Norfolk for ‘throwing shade’

The battle of the BBC breakfast shows is underway.
Radio presenters Nick Conrad and Nick Grimshaw have gone head-to-head with each making digs on air.
It all kicked off yesterday morning as Norfolk native Nick Conrad discussed the topic of getting older.
A listener got in touch to say the moment he knew he had become a grown-up was when he “started listening to Radio Norfolk instead of Radio 1”.
Another caller added: “I knew I’d grown up when I openly admitted to listening to Radio Norfolk and recommended it to my friends, for years I faked being a Radio 1 listener.”
Conrad referred to these comments as “the height of maturity”.
He went on to say: “We support our colleagues at Radio 1, they play music very well... Loud music!
“I’m joking, I like it. I don’t listen to much Radio 1 but there is one dance station we have on because the kids love it.”
Radio 1 DJ Nick Grimshaw then responded to Mr Conrad’s comments during his own breakfast show.
He said: “We’ve just been alerted to something which is quite shocking. We’ve had a text come in saying that over on BBC Radio Norfolk - which is our brothers in arms - they were throwing shade at us.
“I’ve not done nothing to BBC Radio Norfolk. I don’t know what happened but last time we went to the Norfolk area we were in Norwich for Big Weekend we took Florence with us, Taylor Swift came, there was even the Taylor Swift taxi - I got in it one day on the way to Norwich. Lovely part of the world, however apparently it didn’t go down very well.”
Mr Grimshaw proceeded to play a clip of Nick Conrad’s remarks, which he said were “uncalled for”.
He added: “Nick Conrad sticking the knife right in there, I’m shocked to the core. It would be sad if we weren’t playing loud music, this isn’t Classic FM.”
He finished the discussion by dedicating the song Chop Suey by heavy metal band System of a Down to everyone at Radio Norfolk.
Local artist Ruddy Muddy has since created a piece of van art, featuring Grimshaw and Conrad, in response to their comments.
