A racing team managed by a former Norwich soldier has been involved in a serious crash while competing in the world’s toughest rally.

Andrew Taylor from Taverham and Dave Reeve from Great Ryburgh, near Fakenham are part of a team largely made of injured servicemen competing in the Dakar Rally in South America.

The race started on Saturday and Mr Reeve, 58, and Mr Taylor, 40, are travelling in one of the team’s support vehicles.

But on Wednesday evening another one of their support vehicles crashed in Peru.

Two people were killed and three Race2Recovery members, Justin Birchall, Lee Townsend, and John Winskill were injured.

The men were flown to a hospital in Peru’s capital, Lima.

Mr Reeve’s wife, Debbie Harrison, said: “They will be really determined to carry on and to do their best.”
