Before the emergency services arrived at the scene of the accident on Harvey Lane, three men rallied together and ran to find planks of wood from a nearby garden.

The trio then used the wood to prop open the passenger side door in an attempt to help free the man from his car.

Shortly after their efforts, crews from Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service arrived and firefighters were then able to release the man.

The collision happened about 1.30pm this afternoon (Thursday) at the junction of Gordon Avenue and Harvey Lane, between a light blue Hyundai Getz and a black Vauxhall Astra, which left the Hyundai on its side.

The East of England Ambulance Service sent an ambulance officer and an ambulance crew to the scene and have treated the man who was driving the Hyundai. His condition is not thought to be life threatening.

The other car is believed to have been stationary and unoccupied at the time of the crash.

Police had to temporarily close the road but were able to partially open it again at about 2pm.

One witness, who did not want to be named, said it was the fourth time they has seen a serious accident along this stretch of road in a decade.
