Proposal for 105 houses in a Norfolk village submitted
08:56 15 November 2012
Proposals to build up to 105 houses in a county village have been put forward.
Applicant Generator Group LLP is hoping to develop a 3.25-hectare area of land to the south of Yarmouth Road and north of Lingwood Road, Blofield.
Initial designs submitted to Broadland District Council also include a play area and a community recreation area, which is capable of containing a BMX track, skate park or tennis court.
Between 249 and 292 car parking spaces are proposed along with two ways to access the site. One is via Lingwood Road for pedestrian, cycle and emergency vehicles, while the main access will be via Yarmouth Road to the north of the site.
The original plan was for between 70 and 100 properties. But Iceni Projects, representing Generator, said it explained at a meeting last month a “smaller scheme could not deliver the same benefits”.
It is proposed there will be eight one-bedroom properties, 12 two-bedroom, 42 three-bedroom and 43 four-bedroom.
Forty-three of the properties are classed as affordable housing.
A masterplan showing how the development could be built on the land has been produced.
Documents state: “Given that this is an outline application, there are of course many issues that will be subject to approval via a reserved matters application.
“The project team is committed to working with the parish council and local community in the future to agree what is delivered - for example, the final proposal for an outdoor recreation facility will be a decision made at the local level, and the ultimate nature of affordable housing provision will be influenced locally.”
David Ward, vice-chairman of the parish council, said he personally would prefer fewer houses, although he was pleased to see a BMX track suggested.
Mr Ward added: “It’s a nice development mind you but I think the general opinion is there’s a few too many houses.
Blofield Parish Council is to discuss the plan and form an official view to contribute to the consultation at its next meeting.
This will take place next Tuesday at Blofield Court House, Main Hall, from 8pm.
