The turkey may have been eaten and the Queen’s speech is over for another year - but for savvy shoppers, the highlight of Christmas begins today when shops fling open their doors for the Boxing Day sales.
As the scramble for the best post-Christmas offers is about to begin, here are some of the Boxing Day bargains waiting for shoppers:
DEBENHAMS: The sale starts on Boxing Day and includes a Mantary khaki borg fleece lined parka for £53.40 and The Collection red hooded duffle coat for £39
NEXT: The sale starts at 6am on Boxing Day. Reduced items include skinny jeans for £16 and a lace velvet dress for £30.
M&S: Christmas sale items include a Best of British leather almond toe gibson shoes for £150 and an Autograph pure cashmere V-neck jumper for £55.50
CURRYS: Boasting to have the UK’s biggest electrical sale, their offers include a LG 42LN543V 42” full HD LED TV for £279 and Apple MacBook Air 13” for £949.
HARVEY NICHOLS: Look out for a Paul Smith pin dot printed silk tie for £37 and a pair of Armani mid-rise straight leg jeans for £117.
TOPSHOP: At the Topshop sale you can find a faux shearling mix biker jacket for £35 and black velvet teddy playsuit for £20.
JOHN LEWIS: If you want to get a head start at the John Lewis clearance sale, you could shop online from 5pm on Christmas Eve. The sale begins at 8am at stores on Friday. Look out for a Zanussi washing machine for £229 and a Sienna medium sofa for £999.
Hundreds of thousands of people are set to hit the high street in search of a festive bargain, with many popular chains slashing prices by 50pc.
Online sales started on Christmas Eve and millions are believed to have already snapped up goods from the comfort of their own homes.
Keen shoppers started queuing up from the crack of dawn to be first in line.
Some 117 million visits to retail websites are expected to have been made yesterday in the UK however - with today’s figure tipping 118 million.
Experian said that between December 24 and 26, some 45 million hours would have been spent shopping online. By the end of December, it is estimated there will have been three billion visits to retail websites in the UK, which will be the first time that figure has been reached in a single month.
The information services company said this proved consumer spending habits are changing, with more and more looking to spend money on Christmas Day itself.
James Murray, digital insight manager at Experian, said: “Christmas 2013 has consistently outperformed 2012 on virtually every single shopping day this December, with online visits from Christmas Eve through to Boxing Day up from last year, a record breaking Cyber Monday and the emergence of the even busier Middle Cyber Monday.
“Shopping habits are changing, with Christmas Day becoming a significant shopping day during the period. As a result, we anticipate a more sustained shopping pattern during this period, moving away from the traditional peaks and troughs usually evident during holiday season.”
