They came dressed as everything from Power Rangers to Vikings and Hawaiian holidaymakers.

And now the fruits of one of the highlights of the University of East Anglia's calendar have been donated to charity.

Last month's 'Pimp My Barrow' event - at which teams of students dress themselves, and a wheelbarrow, around a theme before parading through nearby suburbs - raised a record-breaking £11,062.50 for cancer charity Big C.

This year 350 teams took part. Dr Chris Bushby, Big C's chief executive, said: 'Enormous thanks to everyone at the UEA for putting in such a lot of effort to create an amazing event and for raising such an incredible total.

'It will go a long way in helping support local people affected by cancer.'

The sum means that in the past five years the event has raised more than £50,000 for Big C. Visit www.big-c.co.uk to find out more.
