A worried North Walsham resident would like to see the town become a “no-fly zone,” town councillors heard.
Peter Richie, of Willow Close, fears the number of helicopters flying over North Walsham make it vulnerable to a disaster akin to the tragedy in Glasgow on November 29 when a helicopter crashed into The Clutha pub, killing 10 people.
Mr Richie has asked for the matter to be discussed at the council’s meeting in January and councillors have agreed to include it on their agenda.
Councillor Garry Bull said the town was regularly overflown by “shuttle-bus” helicopters, carrying people between Norwich Airport and offshore North Sea installations, and Mr Richie was concerned that a proper risk assessment had not been carried out.
