Police will increase patrols around the university for the start of term.

Police are stepping up patrols at the University of East Anglia as thousands of students arrive in the city this weekend for the start of term.

New arrivals can meet with their local officers during the welcome week fair on Monday September 24.

The team will also have a mobile police station on campus open between 10am and 2pm from tomorrow.

Police will also be reminding students about the importance of keeping valuables safe while out and about in the city.

Norwich policing commander, Superintendent Paul Sanford, said: “Student life shouldn’t be all work and no play.

“While moderate amounts of alcohol can play a part in the good times, excessive amounts can have a negative effect, often leading to unexpected and unwanted consequences.

“I would encourage students to know their limits and stay within them. Being drunk is no excuse for criminal or anti-social behaviour.

“We would encourage students to keep a close eye on their property and not to leave them laying around on bars or tables.”
