The guide dog was being walked by its woman owner on King Street at around 11.30am on Tuesday when it was attacked by what is being described as a Staffordshire Bull Terrier type dog.

The woman managed to release her guide dog and it was taken to a vet for treatment.

Officers are keen to trace the female owner of the offending dog, which is not believed to have been on a lead at the time of the incident.

Anyone with information should call PC Michael Pearce at Bethel Street Police Station on 101.
