Police issue warning over Wymondham cash scam

Police in Wymondham are urging local retailers to be vigilant following reports of a cash scam.

It follows an incident which happened at One Stop in Market Street on Saturday, September 8 at 7.40pm when two women entered the store and purchased low value items before asking the cashier to change £180 in £20 notes to £10 notes before asking for it to be changed into £1 coins.

The cashier refused and the women asked for the money back in the original denomination confusing the cashier.

After the women left the shop it was realised £100 was missing.

Officers are urging retailers to be vigilant and to be extremely cautious when dealing with anyone who appears to be trying to confuse you with the money changing scam.

Similar incidents were reported at the Co-op in June earlier this year and anyone with information about the latest incident is asked to call PC Tom Munday at Wymondham Police Station on 101.
