Police issue safety warning to motorists after gusts of 50mph are predicted in Norfolk

Police have warned motorists to take care on Norfolk’s roads tonight, after gusts of up to 50mph were predicted.

The Met Office has advised that the county could experience the strong winds this afternoon and tomorrow morning.

Drivers have been encouraged to allow extra time for their journeys, reduce their speed, leave greater distances between themselves and the vehicle in front and be aware of the possibility of debris on the road.

Emergency services are already dealing with damage caused by the weather - firefighters were called to the Market Gates shopping centre in Great Yarmouth earlier today after heavy wind caused plastic panels to fall off its exterior.
