The live event will take place on the evening of Friday, July 27, from 8pm.

Mr Jewell, who has a mild form of cerebral palsy, has always enjoyed writing and reading poetry which he said helped him tackle his physical and mental health problems.

He said: 'I thought it would be good to do something for Norfolk Day. It is a brilliant idea.

'I have always liked performing poetry. I feel really happy when I write poetry.

'All my worries that I feel just go away. When I read poetry in front of a microphone it takes me away from the troubles of modern life.'

As well as cerebral palsy, the 27-year-old, who runs the staff canteen at Old Catton Morrisons, lives with anxiety and depression.

His cerebral palsy, caused by a problem in the brain, has impacted on his movement due to hypermobility.

He has written poetry since he was about 10-years-old and is inspired by the Second World War.

'I admire how people kept strong and stuck by one another,' Mr Jewell added.

After his 30-minute poetry reading there will be a 45-minute open mic slot for any other live performers.

This will be followed by a raffle in aid of the Cameo Café - a dementia support group in North Walsham.

Mr Jewell will also sell his poetry books on the night in aid of the Cameo Café.

Call the Banningham Crown on 01263 733534 for details.

On the same day, artist John Patchett, from Ballygate in Beccles, is inviting people to watch him create an Impressionist-view of Norwich Market from pastels.

The market is his favourite spot to draw.

Mr Patchett will sit in front of Cary's Flowers from 10am-2pm.

He said: 'I'm most happy painting the hustle and bustle of streets, particularly Norwich.'

'Being an artist is a solitary life. I welcome people taking an interest.'

Speaking about Norfolk Day, Mr Patchett added: 'It is a wonderful idea to celebrate Norfolk. The county has so much to offer.'

He will exhibit his finished creation.
