Wymondham was transformed today (Saturday) with bunting, a brass band, hog roast and hundreds of people who enjoyed the jubilee festivities.

The morning began with an antique’s fair and display of classic cars in the town centre, followed by a street parade led by the Smokehouse Blue Jazz Band and the town’s “King” and “Queen” in regal costume.

Between 400 and 500 youngsters then descended on the Market Square for a specially-prepared lunch and street party.

Daniel Cox, who organised the event alongside a committee, said: “We’ve had so many people and organisations around Wymondham work hard to put together the lunch so it’s really a community event that people across the town have been keen to be part of. “Yes, it’s a celebration of 60 years of the Queen but we saw it as a chance to celebrate all that’s good in Wymondham. It’s a vibrant, happening community but many organisations don’t get the chance to promote themselves so we’ve given them a place to showcase what they do.”

The day also featured a traditional Olde English Fayre and free walk-in art workshop at Wymondham Arts Centre.

Betty Leggett, who was in her 70s and from Hethersett, who visited the event, said: “I think it’s nice because it’s really pretty and it’s a lot better than Norwich.”

Mollie Warman, from Wymondham, added: “I think it’s splendid. The cars have been a particularly nice display.”
