An array of musical delights filled the air at a city centre church as the Norwich Philharmonic Society put on a special afternoon show for charity.

The Lord’s My Shepherd, the Hallelujah Chorus by Handel, and hits from West Side Story were among the many songs performed by some of the members of the society at St Peter Mancroft Church in Norwich on Saturday.

The informal concert was one of many 123 Sing! events that were taking place across the country at the weekend to raise funds for the Classic FM Foundation which is raising money for music therapy for sick, disabled and vulnerable children.

With the church doors wide open as the show took place, passers-by were invited to just drop in and enjoy the music, and the event collected more than £200 in donations.

Sue Mitchell, secretary of the society, said: “It was great taking part in the 123 Sing! events for such a good cause.

“It was really good fun and a great warm up to our new season with our first concert in November.”

The Norwich Philharmonic Society’s next concert is on Saturday, November 5 at 7.30pm at St Andrew’s Hall in Norwich.
