Roll up, roll up – the circus is here!

Billy Smart’s Circus, widely described as Britain’s most famous, has arrived at the Norfolk Showground at Costessey and is being hosted by ringmistress Yasmine Smart, the granddaughter of the founder.

Billy Smart started the largest company touring circus in the UK in 1946 and it became a household name.

It had 21 million viewers at its TV peak, and also earned the circus a “Silver Camera” award.

For this year’s tour, the fast-paced show will span over a two-hour period and the company promises something for all the family.

Yasmine said: “You cannot describe the atmosphere in the circus, but people leave smiling from ear to ear.”

The artists range from traditional trapeze acts, to more unique takes on circus acts.

The Flying Aces are the first Australian trapeze act to perform in Europe, whose daring act takes place over three levels, with swings and trapeze bars.

Caroline was a dancer who fell in love with the circus and she is performing her solo trapeze act, along with Alina, who will be performing her elegant and unique “cube” routine.

The X-Treme Brothers are making their first UK appearance with their skilful balancing act.

Team Fonz will be taking inspiration from the hit musical Happy Days in their trampoline display.

The Asadullin Troupe are bringing their stunning springboard and Russian bar act to the UK for the first time. As well as Germaine making an appearance with her foot juggling skills, Indian Spirit will be performing their fantastic Argentinian bola drumming.

But no circus would be complete without a clown. Jonny Bogino and his family have been circus performers for generations, and this year he is bringing his modern and whimsical comedy style to the UK.

To complete the action, the only British band to tour with a circus will be providing live music throughout the show.

Tickets range from £12-£28 for adults (12 and over) and £10-£24 for children (two to 12). Show times are: today until Friday, 4.45pm and 7.30pm; Saturday, 2pm, 4.45pm and 7.30pm; Sunday, 12.30pm and 3.30pm.
