More than 7,000 visitors have been indulging in a festival of countryside pursuits today as the Euston Rural Pastimes event took place for the 24th year.

Stunning sunshine and a massive array of sights and activites made for the Euston Estate event’s biggest and best year yet, with money raised going to St Nicholas Hospice and local churches.

While the main ring and a host of stalls kept visitors happy throughout the day, one of the highlights of the afternoon had punters craning their necks skywards as the Wildcat Aerobatics put on a show to remember.

Elsewhere, a fleet of steam engines, tractors and classic cars had automotive buffs rapt, and the annual flower show in the estate church offered a burst of colour and creativity.

Giles Smith, who is organising the event for the 24th and final time, said he was delighted with the turnout - and the weather.

“It has been superb,” he said. “The sun has come out and its contribution can’t be underestimated. I think we are seeing a lot more new people coming along, as well as the people who come every year.

“It’s still a fun day and very good value with something for everybody,” he said.

The aerobatic display, which took place at 2pm, was sponsored by Abrey Farms, while Thetford Garden Centre also supported the event.

The Pastimes event came on a busy weekend for the Euston Estate, which also hosted more than 1,000 people at the Red Rooster festival on Saturday.
