Four-legged friends and their owners lined up together in a bid to get their paws on a prize at a charity event.

Halsey House Fun Dog Show took place at the Royal British Legion home in Norwich Road, Cromer, on Saturday and was raising money for the Halsey House Amenities Fund.

Prize classes included dog most like its owner, waggiest tail, best OAP (Old Age Puppy), cutest pup, best fancy dress and best in show.

There was also another class, temptation alley, where the dogs had to weave their way through tempting treats with their owners.

The winner of the dog most like its owner was Sharon Byrne from East Runton who also works at Halsey House, with her two-year-old rescue dog Poppy, a Patterdale cross.

She said: “I think it was the hair that won it for us, we both have the same curly fluffy hair.”

As well as the dog show there was also craft stalls, cakes, and a raffle.

Halsey House manager Sally Mills said: “ It is really nice to see so many people come in to the dog show, we had quite a few call up to check it was going ahead because of the rain, but we are really pleased.”

The care home celebrated its 65th anniversary last year. Built in 1901 as a private house, the home was bought by the Legion for just £9,500 in 1947.

It was officially opened the following year, with its first residents – mainly World War 2 veterans – accommodated on wards.

Halsey House now cares for more than 80 residents, who enjoy a programme of activities ranging from art and exercise classes, to trips out to Norfolk attractions.

A charity golf day is also taking place at Swaffham Golf Club on September 1 to raise money for the Halsey House Amenities Fund. Ring Tina Gray on 01263 512178 for more information.
