The organiser of a Norwich science fiction convention has been 'blown away' by the fantastic response from the public and insisted it will be back for more of the same next year.

Tim Russ from Star Trek Voyager, Louis Cordice from the Harry Potter series and Ryan Gage from The Hobbit were among some of the star names which helped bring NOR-CON to life at the Norfolk Showground this weekend.

The annual science fiction spectacular, which started in 2009, has moved to the Norfolk Showground and was last year extended from a one day event to a two day show.

Mark Dean, director of Nor-Con Events Limited, said this year's event has been one of the best yet. He said: 'This year's Norcon has just blown us away. It's been fantastic. We've had increased numbers in, smiling faces, we've had overwhelmingly positive comments not just from visitors but traders.'

Mr Dean said Norcon would definitely be back next year - for its ninth incarnation - while plans were also being prepared for the year after, the 10th Norcon when 'something special' was being planned.

The Norwich Pops orchestra, which played music from film and TV was one of the Sunday highlights and included a touching tribute to Carrie Fisher, who played Princes Leia in the Star Wars saga but who died at the end of last year.

People also enjoyed the chance to dress up as part of the cosplay competition while there was also a Tardis, trade stands and of course celebrities signing autoraphs, including Terry Molloy, who played Davros in Dr Who.

He said: 'They (conventions) are good fun, I enjoy them. Certainly from a Dr Who point of view it's like being part of an extended family.'

Jon Campling, from the Harry Potter series, said the event was 'very good' and now well established in what was a 'growth industry' of Sci-fi conventions and comic cons.

Lee Nelson, 41, a member of the Norwich Star Wars Club UK, said the event was the only one of its kind in Norwich and so was great to be part of.

He added: 'It's great because it's where all us geeks can get together over a weekend.'

Joleen Azevedo, 37, her partner Rod, 28, and children Marc, 11, and Skye, four, said: 'We've really enjoyed it'.
