The search is on for young people from the region to star alongside a professional cast in a new adaptation of the classic novel Lord of the Flies.
New Adventures, run by world-renowned choreographer Matthew Bourne, is bringing its version of William Golding’s story to Norwich Theatre Royal in November - and the company is looking to recruit about 20 young people aged 10 to 25 to join the cast on stage.
Free dance workshops are now being held to give budding performers - who do not need previous dance experience - an introduction to Lord of the Flies and the production.
The workshops are being run by project ambassadors Cat Chapman and Scott ‘Scooby’ Atkins, and the next one is happening at The Garage in Norwich on May 27.
The ambassadors are working with venues, dance groups, schools and colleges across East Anglia, and they are keen to hear from more young people and organisations who would like to be involved in the workshops.
Cat said: “We want to get everybody involved in this project from those who have never done anything like this before through to young men who might be considering dance as a career.
“The wide age-range will give an opportunity for lots of people to be involved. The workshops are aimed at all abilities and this gives everyone something to work towards.”
Scott added: “We want to reach out to as many people as we can.”
Following the workshops, auditions will take place in September, and those picked to be part of the show will then enter an intensive rehearsal period to help bring the project to the stage in Norwich.
Based on William Golding’s classic novel, the New Adventures production sees the setting transferred from the deserted island of the book to an abandoned theatre and follows a group of schoolboys who make up their own rules and develop their own civilisation after finding they have no adult support or guidance.
