A four-year project to protect Norwich’s buildings came to a culmination this afternoon.

Civic watchdog the Norwich Society presented their list of 135 buildings and sites in the city which they believe need safeguarding from future development.

The list includes schools, pubs, homes, and county hall - the headquarters of Norfolk County Council.

Buildings were judged on six criteria before being added to the list including, historical and architectural significance.

Presenting the list to Lord Mayor Ralph Gayton, the society’s chairman Peter Bentley praised the work of the volunteers.

Mr Gayton said: “This is a worthy addition to all the information we have got. I am sure that the planners here will work on it.”

The society’s list will be adopted by the council.

Planners and councillors will then be able to refer to it when making decisions on any planning applications on the buildings.
