Council leader Brenda Arthur said: “It was a wonderful weekend and in these tough times, we are pleased to still be able to deliver magical, free events.”

While the council’s culture and events manager, Helen Selleck said: “The Lord Mayor’s Celebrations carried the festive atmosphere throughout the weekend. This year we programmed more activities on the streets and people enjoyed moving around discovering different things in the city.

“Norwich is a European city and we showed how we can celebrate like one!”

  • To the people who have commented before, how can you be so miserable? The events team did great and I congratulate them. I practically lived in the city centre from the torch relay to the lord mayors fireworks. Along with thousands of others!

  • In what way was this annual lorry crawl a "free" event? Free perhaps for people who don't pay local taxes - certainly not free for anyone who pays council tax.

  • Are the organisers going to admit they were a failure? I went this year after a two year break, and did not find them as enjoyable as before. In fact quite boring.

  • Celebrations may have been a success but what about the traffic management shambles. City grinding to a halt with in-effective use of 12year old looking eventguard personnel
